House On Mango Street Essay This year in Erin's Humanities class, I and my fellow classmates spent a large amount of time reading House On Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros. It was mainly about a young girl from the ghetto, who goes through many hard situations. She goes from being a character full of shame and who is disappointed in her self, but later realizes that she needs to be happy with herself. By the end of the book, she finds her true identity and becomes confident and empowered. This book really touched my heart because it showed me that after every storm, there's always a rainbow.
Sammy and Juliana Not only did we focus on Esperanza's life, but we spent a lot of time reading a book named Sammy and Juliana written by Saenz. Sammy encounters many hurtful deaths in Hollywood. He looses the love of his life, Juliana, a beautiful girl that gets murdered by her own father. Sammy tries his best to stay strong after each death that comes his way, but he doesn't know that another death is soon to come. I really enjoyed reading this book because it gained my interest a lot throughout ever page I read. A lot of parts in this book really made an impact on me. It taught me to not take my loved ones for granted because another day is not promised.
Antigone Antigone was based on a Greek woman who lost everyone for believing so strongly in morality. She turned her back on her sister and everyone else around her because no one would agree with her. This story really gained a lot of my interest. It was a story that always had entertaining drama and it was a novel hat made you want to keep reading more and more of.
Sold(Book Club Two) This book was about a young girl who thought she was going too get a job as a maid too support her family but later realizes she was tricked into prostitution. She was beat, raped, abused, starved and more. But she still made an effort too stay strong and battle. She was than able too escape that horrible place. Lakshmi is a hero too me, because shes showed me too always stays strong no matter what and too never give up.
Unfortunate Events This book was about two orphans who have to be forced too live in different houses. Their parents died in a fire when both of them were younger. They had no other choice but to live with this evil man who threatened to kill them many times. This series is the most interesting book I've read in a long time because the writing of this book made you feel like you were with the orphans throughout their whole journey. I would definitely recommend this book to any other person that loves to read.
Hatchet This story was about a young boy named Brian who was traveling in a small airplane to Canada to spend the summer with his father, was immediately involved in a plane crash. He then had to find many ways to survive and throughout the cold nights and hot days. This book was very interesting because I got to see how being by yourself can help you figure out who you are as a person. It showed me to always have strength and courage.
Into The Wild
After graduating from Emory University, top student and athlete Christopher McCandless abandoned his possessions, gave his entire $24,000 savings account to charity and hitchhiked to Alaska to live in the wilderness. Along the way, Christopher encounters a series of characters who shape his life. This was one of my favorite books I've ever read. Chris Mccandless' really inspired me. He taught me not to care what anyone else thinks.
