To begin this process, we were each put into a group of 3-4 people. We then had to choose which microscope we wanted to build. There were many designs to choose from but one stood out to my group and that was the cell phone microscope, just because we all love taking pictures on our cell phone. We wanted to make the design really nice and simple so we added an HTHI logo on the back of it. It got kind of complex at times and we had to take into consideration how big we wanted it and we had to make sure all the holes were at the right size. We asked a lot of our peers for help while working on the computer to help us design our microscope to get it cut on the laser cutter. They taught us a lot and we were able to create a nice microscope design and made all the correct cuts. One of our flaws was that we kept messing up on the measurements.
My group members and I decided to photograph a hotcheeto, just because everyone in our group LOVES them. We also thought it would be kind of cool to actually get a closer look at the inside of the hotcheeto and see what we're actually eating. Because once you zoom into a hotcheeto it looks waaaaay different then what you see when it isn't under a microscope.
The perspective shifts because under the microscope it looks like a whole different image, it was pretty fascinating.
General Biology (Health)
My favorite part of biology was Health Fridays, I was able to learn so much and as so many questions. Whether it was about my sexual health, my hygiene health etc. It amazed me that I had a teacher who knew so many answers. Two things that I took away is to really be mindful and use protection whenever I choose to be sexually active also to not do drugs.
Final Lab:
The process of our final lab was pretty fun. It was difficult because their was a time crunch and a lot of pressure because it was our final lab and it could end up bringing our grade down. I really loved how supportive and helpful my group members were, we definitely worked together to get the job done. Overall, I did very well in my group, I was very helpful and I asked a lot of clarifying questions so that I could clear up confusion in my group. I loved my group members, everything went smoothly and well.
Throughout the project, my understanding of perspective has shifted a lot. I now see it as a point of view and how you see different things. I think that the most challenging part of the work around the Perspective Project was actually building the microscope, it was kind of last minute and was something that I wasn't really expecting. I was afraid that I didn't choose the right group members, but we all did everything we could to finish our project by working together and staying on task. Something that I learned and gained so far in our studies approaching perspective, not only on a personal level but also academic understanding is that, everyone is always going to see things differently than you, whether it's from your appearance, to your personality, to your schoolwork. Not everyone is going to think the same way as me or react to things the same way. Everyone's minds are different in their own unique way. I now am able to see the world through the eyes of not just myself, but others as well, My hopes for the future and for the world is that hopefully the world will end up to better place for the kids just now coming of age, The importance of perspective in the study of science is that you need it a lot while actually conducting experiments and you need to be able to look at things from multiple views and be open minded so that you can learn more and more.
Exhibition Night
The work that I did to get ready for exhibition night, was that I helped a lot with cleaning the rooms and made sure everything looked nice. I was also in charge of contacting stores and figuring out the prices of the materials needed to make the project possible. I think that exhibition went well. It was a little out of order at first and unorganized, but once everything started flowing well and parents began to enter the school, everything was amazing. It was fun to answer the questions of all the younger kids and the parents. Their curiosity was what stopped me from getting bored.
